    Hello, All!

I’ve got a bit of a quandry I’m hoping you can help me with.

I’m working on an HD sequence, 960X720 16:9, DVCPRO HD 720p60.

When I add text – a simple line of text, no motion – to my sequence, it causes the video underneath it to jump. The best way I can describe it is that it’s as if a DJ was using a turntable to replay the first couple of frames when the text begins, and then it squirts a few frames ahead at the end of the text clip, causing an obvious jump. When I disable the text clips, the video plays normally.

This happens whether I’m rendering in 8-bit YUV or RGB (8-bit is what I was using, but thought I’d give RGB a try, just in case…) Field dominance is set to none, and it happens whether I’m using High or Dynamic playback.

I’m working in FCP 5.1.4 on a MacPro 2.66 Dual Core Intel with 8GB RAM.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Thanks in advance for your help!

    Peace & respect,

DO NOT just start changing render settings. Make sure sequ
Ence setup matches footage. Use easy setup. Then render when you add graphics

Sorry–let me be clear. The footage settings match the sequence settings and I’ve been working with this footage for a couple of months –it’s a documentary–but this is the first time I’ve had this trouble.

When I experimented with changing the render settings, I made a new sequence, changed the settings, and pasted the footage in from the old one.

If the text isn’t Fully rendered it will be jittery on playback sometimes. Does it have a Green bar above it?

    Hey, All,

    Thanks for chiming in!

Yep, I’ve rebooted, trashed the prefs, repaired permissions, and double checked that all the colors are checked under SEQUENCE>RENDER ALL. Only blue bars at the top of the sequence. I’ve even used render manager to trash the render files for this sequence & rerendered, and the footage is still awonk. 😛

    Joy-

I am having the exact same trouble in FCE. Did you ever find the solution to this problem?

Hey. This is a fairly old post I’m responding to, but I’ve just been having similar issues with text causing the video to get jumpy. Couldn’t find a solution…but realized that it doesn’t affect the final exported video. Did a couple of test exports and they were absolutely fine.
