    Hi,
I’m new to this forum and to AE. I love the new text animation presets in 6.5. I want to use “Animate In – Stretch in each line” and I want the text to act as a mask with a motion graphics clip showing through the text. The rest of the background should remain transparent. Is it possible to use text as a mask after the animation presets are applied? I would appreciate any help getting started with this.

Search the AE help for “track matte”.

Basically, you place the text layer over the footage layer, then set the TrkMat button for the footage layer to “alpha matte”.

Thank you so much. I thought I had to turn the text track into a mask and that wasn’t working at all. Your directions worked perfectly.
