Have searched but no luck finding link to a decent quality telephone monitoring device for recording a phone conversation.
    Thanks!

What I’d do is to use some kind of IP-telephony (skype comes to mind) and record the conversation directly from your computer. (Snapz-pro, if you’re on a Mac.

To get the “telephone” quality of sound (if you don’t want to fake it with eq and compression/limiting), you could use an USB phone and something like skype-mate.

If you will “Search Posts” in this forum and under “Advanced Search” type “telephone” AND include “All Active Posts” and the “Archives”, you will find lots of discussion.

Some methods are virtually free, some require buying gear.

Go with with a used Getner if you can find one or a newer Clearone XAP. Both have balanced XLR outputs and work great; although the XAP has many more bells and whistles. The Clearone XAP is around $550.00 or so if I can recall correctly.
