Teleconverters and B4 Lenses
NOTE: I’m not sure if this is the right categorization; if it can go in a better one, please tell me.
I recently acquired a Canon B4 broadcast lens that I would like to use with EF. I removed the servo unit for full manual control. I was originally going to use just a converter from B4 to EF, but came across some discussion about the vignetting, even on APS-C sized sensors. Flange distance isn’t TOO big of a problem since the lens has an adjustable flange distance. If anyone has experience with this conversion (or lens conversion in general), what can I do? What factor of teleconverter would you suggest I use (1.4x or 2x)?

I’ve never done this or seen it done, but B4 lenses are more geared to ⅔” chip cameras. A much smaller sensor than an APS-C sized sensor, so yes you are going to get vignetting. I’d imagine it will be multiplied with a teleconverter.

This is not possible, period. The sensor on a 2/3″ camera is tiny compared to APS-C, and the image circle of the lens will not come anywhere close to covering it. You’ll be looking down a tunnel. It’s not worth wasting your time and money; sell the lens and buy something useful.
