Next week I’m slated to begin editing on a quick and simple project that has an A cam and B cam of a talking head. The footage is being loaded in for me and today the other editor brought something to my attention that now concerns me.

CamA is XDCamHD (not sure which model) @ 23.98 and CamB is EX3 @ 23.98

She captured the disc-based XD into a 1080p/23.976 project @ DNx145 and then imported the EX3 from an external drive via Clip Browser at native res into the same project.

At some point the Talking Head coughs and we noticed that the Source TC is different between the XDCamHD footage and the EX3 footage at the same point, even though they were supposedly jammed with TC. The offset is consistent throughout, so it does not appear to be a drift.

I know that she can sync the footage by eye, but it really concerns me that the TC’s would be off – Has anyone else seen this?

We have about 5 different interviews all shot by different camera operators in different cities and at least two of the interviews (the two that she captured/imported today) were showing this issue. One interview was offset by about 15 secs offset, the other was about 30 secs offset.
