    Hello.

I have recently encountered some problems whilst capturing footage shot on the Canon XL H1 to FCP 5.0.4.

For what could be a number of reasons, there were numerous TC breaks on several of the tapes. Whilst attempting to capture around/through these breaks, it is taking FCP some time (between 10 seconds and 3.5 minutes) to regain the TC and begin capturing again. Obvisouly a problem as the tape is still running. I believe the footage is actually there on the tape (when capture kicks back in the TC will be at, for example, 2:31:09) but FCP cannot access it as it is preoccupied trying to re-locate the TC. All we have during the downtime is a blue screen.

Can anyone help out here? Is there a way I could capture footage RAW, as in just grabbing what is on the tape wholesale, instructing FCP to ignore TC all together?

I hope I have worded this so you can understand the problem. Any aid of course appreciated.

Yes, at the cost of having the correct timecode, you can choose to ignore it. Set your device control settings to “non controllable device”, hit play on the camera, and then click on “Capture Now”.

    Thanks.

I’m starting to think it is a tape issue…
