Tascam DR-60 One Input sounds different

What sort of mics?
Positioned how far from the people speaking?
Did you listen to each microphone as a single mic or were you listening to the mix of both mics?
Did you mix to mono on site or recorded them as separate tracks and then mono’d them in post prod?
Have you ever tested your mic cable wiring are they correct ie; pin 1 to pin 1, pin 2 to pin 2, and pin 3 to pin 3?
Are they pro made cables or DIY cables?

Any or some of these could be the problem……

My gut feeling is it a 180deg phase problem, if you still have the recording as 2 separate tracks phase reverse just one track (either one … ) then try to mono mix it and see if that makes a difference.

They are three pin xlr cables they are plugged in correctly.

Are they pro made cables or DIY cables?
Pro made and tested.

Also when monitoring the audio it sounded fine.. just in playback on the computer one sounds tinny for some reason.

I just recorded to one track I believe…. maybe il figure out how to do two from now on… what is phase 180?

There is a phase switch at the point just after “in the morning for us” has it gone through any sort of editing?
Something changed….. even the dialogue doesn’t flow

So my best guess is that the DR60 has the feature that you can have one track record at -10db or more . It’s called “Dual Mono Mode”. When in dual mono mode, (page 52 of the manual), you can set the Dual level so that the second track records at some amount less than the first track, so you can avoid levels that may peak during the recording. If one channel of dual mono is fine (the louder track) then throw out the second channel and copy the first one on your timeline. Now you have dual mono that match. If you needed the second channel (I’m not sure how you would since it’s recording the same thing to both channels) then put that on the timeline, normalize the volume in your software and you should be good to go.

The manual contains pretty clear descriptions of the various recording modes. If you were really trying to create a stereo pair, with two different mics recording two different things, then you would likely have chosen the mono setting and simply recorded separate mono channels.

It has gone through editing just to show you the two different voices… i have ran no phase thing unless it I a setting on the device that I don’t know about… any thoughts?

The second part was done with 2 mics or one mic plugged in?

I get the feeling that there is something your not telling us….

Im pretty sure im telling everything, there is only one track… with both mics plugged in… im literally plugging two identical mics into the DR-60 and pressing record… I have done zero effects in post production and one the mics sounds tinny…
