  • Targeting individual objects in a layer with expressions (making a wall of LEDs blink)

    Hi all,

I’ve an illustrator layer imported to After Effects that is a grid-wall of dots, simulating LEDs. I can set up various expressions to make the entire layer randomly blink but I’d like to do this with each dot. I’m assuming I can’t target each individual dot with an expression (would solve my issue so well) but I, equally, can’t set up a layer for each dot as there are several thousand.

Starting fresh and generating the dots as particles is also likely no go as the dots are positioned in such a way that they’re not one even grid (not that that’s important, just explaining why an even grid from particles isn’t that useful).

Any ideas appreciated, I’m stumped. Thank you in advance.
