  • Targeted search of file names within folders

    Hello folks,

I’ve run into a small issue I’m having trouble to find a good way around.
I need to make rush reels from footage in different folders.
My files in the Premier Pro CC project panel are the same the media files: example 00_0001_2013_07_25_200936.M2T
    Number of the clip_year_month_day_time.M2T

My issue is that when classified by name, the number of the clip in front 00_0001 and so forth makes that all 01 come first then 02, then 03 disregarding the date. I need to make my rush sequences in order date and time. I need all the 07_25 then all the 07_26 and so forth.

So I started typing in the search bar 2013_07_26 and select all put in the rush reel. It works BUT the search bar does search all the columns with info in them. So I if I search 2013_07_25, all my footage

How can I search only in the name column ?

    Hi…

don’t forget about the “FIND” funtion.

this is separate from the search box you are typing in right now.

it’s the magnifying glass at the bottom of the project panel

    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/using/organizing-assets-project-panel.html

    “Find assets matching criteria

For more detailed searches, you can locate any assets in your project that meet criteria you specify. For example, you can search for a video clip that has a certain word in its Name column and a phrase in its Comment column.

    Do one of the following:
Click the Find icon at the bottom of the Project panel.
Select the Project panel, and press Ctrl + F (Windows), or Command + F (Mac OS).
In the Find dialog box, select the name of the columns to search from the menus under Column.
Select the appropriate operators from the menus under Operator.
Type in the characters you want to find in the specified columns in their respective Find What fields.
If you’re searching for two criteria simultaneously, do one of the following:
To find assets that match both criteria, select All from the Match menu.
To find assets that match either criteria, select Any from the Match menu.
    Click Find.”

Ah, I see. But how do I “Find” inside a folder in the project panel, because the Find option does not give us the option to chose a folder to look inside of.

    oops sorry…

use the search field like you started with.

BUT double click and open the bin first…(it will open in it’s own window or own tab of project panel)…

then use the search field for that bin….then it will only search those items in that BIN…

Ok. That was what I was doing and thus I run into the issue of searching in all fields/columns and not being able to restrict the search….

    ok so to resolve THAT….

you will notice that the search field has a couple of options…

one is to search all METADATA

the other is to search ONLY metadata that is shown in the project panel

to use that properly….you need to customize the metadata columns shown in the project panel so that you don’t run into the conflicts you are having….

    SOOOoo…

in the upper right corner of the project panel is a context menu…

one of the options allows you to customize matadata…

if you select that you can create a custom metadata setup expose more or less columns in your view….you can make a preset for “rushes”

then with that preset view enabled AND looking only in one bin

you can refine the search the way you want…

    Thanks for the detailed response.
I tried making a new metadata column with nothing in it and with that and only the name of the clips enabled, did a search in a folder but it does not work.
I guess I’ll have to look at the detail explanation on the link.
    Thanks Alex.

you have to set the search param in the project panel from all metadata to only what’s shown in the project panel….
