tapeless editing
Hello, I am using mid 2010 8 core mac ATI Radeon HD 5770 6gb RAM, as an edit machine with no edit hardware.
One of the reasons for not using edit hardware is that use compact flash cards as my video source so there is hardly any need for capturing hardware… but I still encounter bottlenecks while editing, Long rendering times, becomes hard to edit when more than 6 editing layers.
What edit hardware should i go for as in this case of tapeless editing ? matrox or blackmagic or AJA KONA which gets me rid off these bottlenecks.

Bottlenecks and long rendering can be avoided by using the correct editing workflow. Not excluding FCP friendly codecs and 7200rpm hard drives (FW 800 minimum, RAID recommended).
Using hardware based capture i/o devices are not only great capturing devices but are also very good at monitoring the output of your timeline. With that in mind, I can’t say that any of the i/o devices will eliminate your bottlenecks.

Matrox just introduced the Matrox Majito Max card. It offers a lot of bang for the buck.

Just out of interest, isnt RAID 0 technically much faster? RAID 5 just offers redundancy (which is obviously important for some, but just wondering).
