Tape Ticking During Record/Playback
Hey,
I just purchased a used DVX-100A with only 76 hours on it. I tested everything out to make sure that it fit it’s “excellent condition” description and it did until I started hearing a ticking noise coming from the tape deck as I was recording. I captured the tape into FCP to see if the sound was being picked up by the on camera mics and it was.
I used my school’s DVX-100’s for a majority of my projects and never remembered hearing this noise or the motor during zooms so loudly. Obviously I can’t have a ticking noise running throughout my audio track.
I just wanted to make sure that I wasn’t being paranoid and should keep the camera. Or if I should return it/ look for a repair.
What you can you suggest?

You really shouldn’t be using just the onboard mics for your audio. Those are there just to prove the camera can in fact record sound. If you want good sound, get an external mic either a boom, lav or at least a longer shotgun mic for the camera. It shouldn’t really be ticking either- at least not incredibly loudly.

I’m having the same problem. The only solution i’ve found is changing the recording tape speed from SP to LP and the clicks stop. It must be an internal camera issue rather than an external audio problem. If anyone has any ideas please let me know!
