This is totally off the topic of Avid, but I’m at a loss here and thought I’d seek the wisdom of some of you you media savvy folks. Where I work, we have a huge tape archive going back about six years or so and we increase the number of tapes by about 400-500 a month. We have a database and numeric tracking system now, but I’m looking to update our archiving system. I’d like to find an all in one barcode based system with scanners and tracking software, but I don’t know where to begin and haven’t had much luck Googling. Like I said, this is completely off the Avid topic, and for that I apologize- but was hoping someone could maybe throw some names or ideas my way if anyone has any. Thanks.

    Turk,

Xytech Enterprise has a library module that does this. Or you can create your own database and install barcode scanners using Foxpro and off-the-shelf hardware. We use both of these solutions in-house.

Thanks Bill, I’m going to check Xytec out. We used to use an old version of Foxpro, but switched over to access. In researching, I’m finding that it’s possible to integrate barcoding with Access- so I’m going to do a little more research on that as well. Anyway, thanks I appreciate your help.
