Tangent Wave Sensitivity
Posted by Ron Smith on November 10, 2010 at 6:24 amIs anyone else having problems with sensitivity of certain knobs on Tangent panel? Specifically the ones that do not have their own customized sensitvity. Some are fine but others like Red offset and luma gain need 6 rotations to get 1 increment change.Finding it easier to just use mouse than to wear my fingers out.

November 10, 2010 at 7:14 amYes……experiencing similar.
Especially the ‘jog wheel’ which is to slow to be of any use and it also stutters consistently every few frames.j

November 10, 2010 at 9:15 amHi guys,
I came around a bit the last couple of weeks and i found FOUR broken Tangent Wave panels.
They seem to work but the encoders cant handle speed dialing.
Please disconnect your Wave, reconnect and try in in test mode.
When you turn a knob, its values should go up to 20 or more.
If it only updates slowly, doesnt go higher that 8 or something like that you have a faulty panel too.
People just sent theirs back to the dealer or Tangent directly and got a new one.
Also make sure you are on the 1.9 firmware to get the best results.
The Jog wheel seems to be the worst of the encoders for everyone.
Luckily I seem to have one of the new batch and its very flick-able. -

November 10, 2010 at 6:06 pmThanks Sascha, the encoders work fine with Apple Color, almost think it is some file that is not right with resolve and Wave communication.

November 10, 2010 at 6:19 pmSascha what do you mean by “test mode”?
Also, our panel indicates Boot v1.4 even after the 1.9 Firmware upgrade. Curious to know if others are experiencing this?Cheers,
J

November 10, 2010 at 7:43 pmBoot version is different from Firmware version. Confirmed the panel is running 1.9.
Geting readings in test mode of +2 and -2 only for all rotary style knobs. Is this normal?j

November 10, 2010 at 9:45 pmThat’s very interesting. I might do some tests with mine as well. I have always felt that the wheels, esp the jog wheel was skippy and slow. If this is a problem I could send my board in to fix it’d be happy days!

November 11, 2010 at 1:08 amI tend to think, that there is no problem with the hardware. The same Wave, that is absolutely abysmal with Resolve, works perfectly fine with Scratch. And, yes, that is applicable to the jog wheel as well. Draw your own conclusions…

November 11, 2010 at 10:51 pmTurning the knobs quickly doesn’t seem to work on the Wave with Resolve. Have you tried turning them at a slow even pace? They do not react the same as in Apple Color so try turning them a bit slower.

November 11, 2010 at 11:30 pmI had a Wave with defective encoders. I never noticed it with Color, but for whatever reason Resolve exposed the problem. The test mode on the Wave should show a bad encoder. You should be able to turn them fast enough to see double digit numbers fly by. Two of the encoders on the bad panel would only register numbers if turned slowly, and then only show a 1 or a 2. Tangent support was very quick in replacing the panel, and the new one works much better in Resolve.

November 19, 2010 at 4:21 amYes, I’m finding sensitivity settings to be an issue, too.
