I have heard many good things about Taiyo Yuden brand dvds. Could anyone tell me where you are buying them? I recently bought 200 from a company and out of the first 6 I used, 5 of them were bad. I need a reliable source. Not sure if it is the brand or the company.

    Thank you.

The first thing I’d do is contact the company and ask for my money back.
I’ve been buying T-Y for a few years now and never had a bad one.
I bought my last batch (the Watershield version – they look GREAT when printed with an inkjet printer!!)) from Tiger Direct.
Current price is $160.00 for 300 discs.
Be advised that I’ve heard rumors that the low end of T-Y are not good at all and this may be what you ended up with.
Spend a bit more and get better quality.

To be certain that you got what you paid for, grab a utility called DVD Identifier and see what it says about these discs.
When I run it on my DVD, I get the following info:

    Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:TYG03]
    —————————————————————————-
    Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] – [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.]
    Manufacturer ID : [TYG03]
    Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]

Thanks for the insight. I ran mine and got:
Everything the same except TYG02 instead of 03.
Would that make such a difference I wonder?

    Manufacturer ID : [TYG02]

I checked other Vegas forums and, since the general consenus was that they’re OK, I’ll ask a few more questions.
T-Y makes several different types of blanks DVDs so what was the specific model of disc you bought?
How old is your DVD burner?
How long is the program you’re putting on the DVD?
What MPEG-2 bitrate did you encode to from Vegas?
Are you using DVD Architect to author and burn the discs or are you using another app for burning?

T-Y makes several different types of blanks DVDs so what was the specific model of disc you bought? It says “Taiyo Yuden 200 8x Inkjet Hub Print DVD-R Blank”
How old is your DVD burner? Less than 1 year
How long is the program you’re putting on the DVD? 2 hours
What MPEG-2 bitrate did you encode to from Vegas? Don’t remember I did it last fall and the customer brought in the original and needed more copies.
Are you using DVD Architect to author and burn the discs or are you using another app for burning? Originally I used DVD arch.

What is weird is I also was just burning a VHS to DVD on my DVD recorder and one of those skipped also. I just tried 3 more and they worked..could just be a fluke?

No manufacturing company is perfect so you may have just gotten a bad batch of DVDs.
This is why I suggest contacting the company and asking for an exchange.
If they’re reputable, this won’t be a problem.
If they give you any kind of grief, don’t do business with them again.

Try a different DVD media. If you get the same it is most likely the burning.

Mike asked you “how” old the burner was. What I’d NOW be asking is your estimate on how many BURNS – DVDs CDs & -RWs you have had through the burner.

    What burner is it?

    Grazie
