Honestly, photos are not the primary use for CatDV.
That said, we’ve created some great image archives using CatDV. One thing that is good to do is to create a set of records for each person in your archive, sort of a “mugshot gallery” with an edited close up of each person along with their metadata.

That way you can just tag the photos and check who’s who by a related search. Not perfect but very workable if CatDV is your only asset tracking solution.
CatDV is very focused on video and in our larger deployments we tend to integrate CatDV with another image management system, or bring assets over after tagging in another photo app that supports more advanced photo workflows with a GUID so we can track back to the other system.
Just as image systems lack the video features of CatDV, CatDV does not have some of the more advanced photo features such as face tagging etc so you may need to augment it, if photos are critical to your workflow.
