  • TackMatte layers still casting shadow… ?

Posted by Scott Geersen on February 26, 2008 at 5:02 am

    Hey guys,
Just searched, couldn’t find, surprised me somewhat as this issue is really bugging me and it must have occured to other people too.

When I have some 3d layers / lights, and i use another 3d layer as a track matte, the layer that has been matted is still casting a shadow, even though the layer itself is not visible anymore because of it’s matte.
    What gives?

Is there a workaround? Weird that I’ve been using AE for this long and have never encountered this before…

    Thanks!
    Scott.

[Scott Geersen] “the layer that has been matted is still casting a shadow, even though the layer itself is not visible anymore because of it’s matte.”

Have you gone into material options (select the layer and hit ‘aa’) and turned “Casts Shadows” to off? You’ll probably want “Accepts Lights” and “Accepts Shadows” off as well.

Also, just for clarity ‘the layer that has been matted’ shouldn’t refer to the layer that is used as the matte, but rather the one that is matted.
