T Tool of 7 also in X?
Hi everybody,
Just spent bother day in editing the new conquered X application.
One Q came up: how can I select single or multiple tracks back or forward in the TL from the cursor point on (like in FCP 7 with T)?Thanx.

Wie kann mir Roles da helfen?
Z.B.: Ich moechte alle clips im Projekt con einer bestimmten Stelle nach rechts forward selektieren um sie so also Gruppe zu verschieben, so dass ein Loch ensteht, in das ich z.b. etwas einsetzen moechte.
Ich habe diese Funktion in FCP 7 andauernd verwendet.LG,

There is no T or Track Tool. In this case you have to “think Avid”. Insert a gap and then set the duration of the gap. This will slide all subsequent clips to the right thanks to the magnetic timeline. That’s the way Media Composer has done it for years prior to their own Smart Tool addition.
You can also use the timeline index to select all clips after a certain point. Then click the P key for Position mode and drag the selected clips to the right. A gap is automatically created in the vacant space.

“Not that your were talking to me. But thanks for that tip. Really a cool way to add a scene in a crowded timeline without screwing things up and you can always delete any excess gap when you are finished with the additional scene. I suppose you could also create a new timeline, work on the new scene and insert it when you are ready. But this method helps have control over what is being rippled down the timeline and you can check the edit before during and after the changes to be sure nothing has gone out of sync or messes with the sequence of shots.
I’m finding the index more and more useful, particularly if I named clips in a meaningful way.

This comes up every once in a while.
This is certainly, where the X primary storyline method differs from tracks.
My question to you is, what are you trying to do exactly
I know, it sounds crazy, X is stoopid, blah blah blah, but your answer will make a difference on what needs to be done.

@ Jeremy: I found the track tool in 7 tremendously helpful I I wanted to insert a space somewhere in certain place on the TL, so ii could insert material there.

Oliver’s way above is great if you have a lot of complexity going on and want to carefully preserve the same. . But if you only want to slide everything downstream quickly and simply – and you don’t yet have a lot of complexity built, just place your cursor on the primary here you want the gap, Blade all to form a new connected group (or not as you need), then tap Option W to Insert a gap at that point. Then drag the tail of the gap to make the space as long as you like.

Only works that way if you have all tracks selected or have sync locks on. I thought I was the only one that worked in Avid with sync locks on 99% of the time. When I switched to legacy I had no problem adapting because it functioned, at least ripple-wise, like Avid with sync locks on. If you only wanted to ripple single tracks in FCP legacy, you had to lock the other tracks. Makes sense to me. Of course X is some sort of discombobulated hybrid of those two.
