    Hi….

I have a question relating to the system’s overall performance. Basically the system runs fine up until 20 minutes or so of cutting when it all of a sudden begins to reduce to a crawl performance-wise. My RT is set to safe…i’m running FCP 4.5 on 3GB RAM…Dual 2 ghz Power PC G5 processor…am I missing something in my System Settings?

I’m editing a feature length piece in different sequences to spread out the load but still, after just under half an hour it gets clogged and slows down so that every little command is a process…??? At times, if I can bear it…it will all of a sudden release the phantom grip that presides over the processor and becomes smooth and quick again, but usually I end up restarting the app before that happens out of pure frustration.

Any help that you can offer on perhaps changing my system settings would be appreciated.

    thanks,

    Chris

ONly have one sequence open at a time or as few as possible. Also keeping your project file to less than say 60mb helps as well. Sequences use up your RAM and when it’s gone, the slowdown is going to show up.

FWIW, I’ve seen improvements in this with FCS 2 running on an 8 core with more RAM… might think about an upgrade?

Thanks for that Jerry but I’m not that sure RAM is the only problem. If I replace my Black Magic Decklink card with a second video card to drive my monitor the problem completely disappears and the machine runs smoothly. When I replace the Decklink card the problem comes back. Slowdown after about 2 hours work. I have to quit and re-open the program to get rid of the problem.

I’d appreciate any other thought you may have because I like my decklink card but will have to junk it if I can’t solve this problem.

Might post a question about the Decklink card and it’s drivers in the Decklink forum here, but I’d suggest that you uninstall then reinstall it’s drivers. Might be a set that works better with your particular setup, that’s why the suggestion to post the question there too.

I experience the same problems on alot of our quads G5s. Been like that since 6.0 I think. Nothing seems to work. One workaround is to turn off and on again realtime preview. EXTREMELY IRRITATING: Haven’t seen this on our intel macs
