System Rebuild: to journal or not to journal?

I’m about to pull the plug and give ye olde awesome system the annual enema, and did a quick search on whether to format the system drive as journaled or not. It seems most guys lately had said journaling was unneccessarryy and sacrificed a little bit of speed, but reading today it sounds like others are suggesting that tiny bit of speed loss is worth it after a system crash…

Any thoughts? At this point, methinks i’ll go journaled…

Journaling is one of my top favorite things of macosx. I couldn’t imagine life without it!

Whatever the way you do it, it will be Journaled.
System HDs can only be Journaled.
So, if you don’t activate the Journaling when formatting the HD, it will activates it self when installing the System.

Is journaling recommended for media drives?

That issue has been treated many times here without any definitive answer. It seems that Journaling is a kind of extra files/folder control system. This extra step could in theory slow down some how the HDs.

In a System HD, where may easily reside hundred of thousands of files and folders, Journaling is a must.
Media HD shouldn’t have that complexity.

Consensus: for a system drive, do the journal. Done.

Now it’s fonts. I’m trying to streamline as much as possible on this reinstall and know there are (at least?) 3 font folders upon reinstall: Mac HD/Library/Fonts, Mac HD/System/Library/Fonts, and User/Library/Fonts. First of all…why 3, and if i install new fonts, is Font Book the way to go or just drag to one o’ these three folders?
