i am currently running c4d v 11.5 on a macbook pro 2.5 with 4 gigs of ram and i am going to upgrade in order to expand my abilities with in c4d.
my question is it better to get as 8 core processor mac pro or to go for a 4 core processor machine with a faster processor speed and more ram? i am asking this cause i need to get the most bang for my buck i am a freelancer expanding into the cinema 4d work world and money is an object.

It depends on the type of work you do and the sort of bottlenecks you’re seeing. Faster cpu speed will improve editor performance and rendering speed (so long as you don’t run out of ram). Having more cores generally just helps speed up rendering. Having more ram allows you to use larger textures and more geometry, etc.

Generally speaking I would say that if you do a lot of character animation or complex fx work, you’d be better off with the faster cpu. Otherwise you’d probably be better of with more processors.

I am doing a lot of animation and complex effects so based on what you are saying that as long if you load up on ram then a 4 core faster cpu would do i might experience better results?
my major issues is c4d cant keep up with me and that is frustrating while i am modeling and know that i am animating multiple models, particles and pryoclusters it gets bogged down fast. It is a space scene so there is alot of effects going on.

the jump from a Core2 duo with a 9400M to either of the Nehalem towers is pretty big, can you get the Mac dealer of choice to let you put the c4d demo on either one and test the feel?
