  • Syncing external audio in FCP – can’t get levels to show.

Ok. So I recorded a quick test vid with the 7D.

    Hit record on 7D
    Hit record on Zoom H4n

    Clapped twice in beginning
    clapped twice in end.

    Stopped 7D
    Stopped Zoom H4n

I took the CF card out of the 7D and SD card out of the Zoom and copied the files. Then, I dropped those files straight into FCP.

Now, when I go into FCP, how can I get the audio levels to show in the timeline? I’m trying to sync them with the clap spikes, but they don’t show. The audio levels just show a flat line. I know I can double-click the audio file to open it up in the viewer, but I want to be able to do this from the timeline so it’s easy to sync the two tracks.

What am I doing wrong? I’m slowly re-learning FCP after having used Sony Vegas for a couple years and I forgot how to do this.

    Here’s a photo
