synching multicams without in/out/timecodes
Still just getting used to using FCP. Trying to edit a multicam using 2 video sources. Neither have a good in or out point from the footage that I’ve looked at. Perviously I’ve been able to synch 2 vids usings the audio as a ‘guide’. Is there any thing similar in FCP or any other idea how to synch it up?

How do you think FCP can sync your clips for you? It cannot.
You must find an in point that is common to all clips. You can observe the audio waveforms and attempt to find a common peak or burst. If you have no way to sync the footage because it was not shot properly, you will not be able to use multicam.bogiesan

Fortunately it’s only 2 cameras. I don’t know how long the program is and hopefully no one paused or stopped a camera somewhere. One clue you can often find at live events is the flash from a still camera. Scrub through and stop the playhead on one and add a marker then do likewise for the other track but just make sure you have the same flash (in case there are many) For stage events look for changes in lighting like a spot turning on/off or color changes etc. You should be able to get 2 cameras exact. If one was creative and the other a “safe” camera and both have good audio feeds then use the audio from the creative camera with the close ups where you will see lip sync but then if each camera has good audio you should be able to get them exact anyway.

When I’m synching using audio, I usually lay both clips out in the timeline and align them there, listening and looking at the waveforms. When they’re in synch, I make sure that both clips start at the same time on the timeline and hit the match frame button for each one (f). This will set the in points for you and then you can select your clips and multi-cam them, using in point as your synch mark.
