Sync/Framerate Issues with Alexa ProRes
Hi everyone,
I’m currently editor on a short shot on the Arri Alexa. The first reel was accidentally shot at 25fps, with the timecode set at 24fps. The camera assistant didn’t think this would be an issue as the frame rate was correctly set, however FCP identifies the footage as 24fps so sync is drifting horribly in the 25fps sequence. I’m pretty sure the footage is 25fps as there is drift even in a 24fps sequence.
My first plan was to re-conform to 25fps in Cinema Tools but for some reason it comes up with an error message saying it can’t access the clip info to change it (I’ve tried on two FCP suites). I’ve tried encoding as both 24 and 25fps from MPEG streamclip, but it also sees the footage as 24 so that’s no help either. I’ve also tried exporting an image sequence and creating a 25fps file from that but to no avail.
Does anyone have any ideas? It’s a master shot that lasts the entire length of the programme so would be a bit of a disaster to lose and I don’t really want to have to sync every line of dialogue by eye!
