sync link
Posted by Roger Bansemer on October 19, 2011 at 3:25 pmI’ve read the short paragraph about the new Sync Link in Vegas 11 but can’t really figure out what they are talking about. Can someone describe it a bit better for me than what Sony has written?

This is very powerful yet simple. It’s like grouping but with a parent/child relationship where child events can move independently but will also follow the parent when it is move.
When you Group two or more events they move in unison. Move any of the events and they all move. With Sync Link, they will all move when the parent event moves, but you can move the child events and have the parent stay in pace. So only moving the parent causes the child events to follow it’s movement.
For example, you can sync link a recorded audio event with the parent video. When the video moves, the audio moves with it, but you can still nudge audio a bit and have the video stay in place. Or you can sync link a lower third or title to your main video. When the main video moves the lower third or title moves with it, but you can still move them to adjust when they start and the video remains where it is.
Does that make sense?

October 21, 2011 at 11:09 amThat does make sense and I just got an email a few minutes ago from Sony with a link with better descriptions to the new features.
However, when I select a range of clips from the timeline and then right click on the sync link as it says to do, the “unlink” and “select all” feature is grayed out. So I’m still missing something. It does sound like a good feature because sometimes my multicam clips get a bit mixed up and out of sync if I’m not careful.
