sxs card in pcmcia
Posted by Stefan Kroesbacher on February 15, 2008 at 3:33 pmHi all,
just wondered:
can a pcmcia-adapter to expresscard work with a sxs card??
as far as i know, the sxs card is going for the pci-express part of
the Expresscard-Slot and doesn’t use the USB Part of the Expresscard Specs.
RIGHT???So any current adapter from PCMCIA to Expresscard will not work with
SXS Cards, for they only use the USB protocol.. RIGHT???please, anyone who tried using a G4 Powerbook with SXS card
please help!!!stefan

February 21, 2008 at 5:33 pmI’m in the same boat. I need a reader or adapter for a Powerbook G4. It uses the PCMCIA sized cards. The reader you posted Gary is for a desktop.
I just ordered the Dual Systems Adapter,
https://www.duel-systemsadapters.com/?productid=DP-0002
and found that it doesn’t work with the SxS on a Powerbook. So I’m stuck. I found this by Novatel:
https://3gstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15&products_id=422
But I don’t know if it’ll work.Help anyone?

February 27, 2008 at 9:00 pmA clarification of what one can do with a G4 powerbook and an EX-1 would be great. Otherwise it seems that built into the cost of an EX-1 is a macbook pro or alot of sxs cards.
I think that because it won’t handle final cut 6 and xdcamtransfer, you cannot really “transfer” the video onto the G4 powerbook as .mov, but only drag it on as an unusable store. This Bpav folder would need to be put back onto the camera and then recaptured on at least a G5 capable of fcp6 and xdcamextrans, true?
In short, is it true that the G4 is relatively useless to the EX-1 user?
longing for PRO CLARION CLARITY ON THIS!
Thanks, Hilary -

September 2, 2008 at 8:59 pmI tried the duelAdapter cradle and it didn’t work. But, I’m wondering if the problem was with the SXS Driver which requires Mac OS 10.4.9 or 10.5 or later. My G4 titanium only has 10.3.9. which is the minimum requirement for the DuelAdapter Cradle. So the question is if I upgrade my OS to 10.5 can I expect the driver and cradle to work. I only want to use this computer as a mule on location to copy my BVAP files to a firewire drive and then transfer and import to my Mac Pro. My G4 will copy the BVAP folder but using original USB it takes two hours to copy 8gb. Any help will be appreciated. I have 30 days to return the DualAdapter Cradle. Thanks.

Yes, I use one. It’s how I get SxS into my desktop.
