  switching projects back & forth between FCP 5 and 6

  I’ve been doing a lot of transferring ‘work in progress’ project files back & forth on different machines, starting something in FCP 6 or 7 then bringing it home to work on it in FCP 5.4. (yes I’m still using a last gen G4, if i had the money I’d get a newer computer ok) I generally do this by saving as an XML which tends to work ok, but it always fouls up the audio to where the channels need to be re-connected as a “stereo pair”.
  My question is, is there an easier way of doing it that I don’t know about? Saving the individual audio tracks in proper assemblage on the timeline is my main concern
