  • Switching from FCP to Vegas…new machine or Boot Camp?

Posted by Chris Pope on August 28, 2011 at 4:33 pm

I have 3 *really* nice iMacs, have the speed to run Vegas, not OPTIMALLY, but they can do it, but I have zero experience with running windows on boot camp. Can anyone help make a recommendation? Does anyone have any experience with this?
    thanks for your help!

Hi Chris. First of all welcome to the Vegas community. I think you’re gonna like it here. 😉

I haven’t used Bootcamp on a Mac yet but as I understand it, it allows you to boot into Windows and at that point, it’s the same as any other Windows PC except that some of the keys on your Mac keyboard may be labeled different. You’ll have to learn your way around Windows which is a bit different than OS X but you’ll get the hang of it.

I run Windows 7 64-bit on Mac OS X on my MacBook Pro using VMware Fusion. This allows me to bring up Vegas without having to reboot. I’m going to try Bootcamp next. You might want to download the trial of VMWare Fusion and see if it runs fast enough on your iMacs to support Vegas. Otherwise bootcamp is the way to go.

There are some people here who run bootcamp so hopefully they will give you some more insight. Once again, welcome to Vegas.

There’s a lot of people running Bootcamp and Windows to run Vegas on their Macs.

There is a “rendertest” thread on the SCS Vegas forum, and two of the fastest PC’s in the results are Power Macs running Bootcamp.
