switching files in Vegas
Posted by Doug Kereszturi on January 25, 2011 at 9:59 pmI am hoping all of you can help. Is it possible to open and work on a project in an older version of Vegas (8), then reopen in Vegas 10 and complete it? Are there different files or are all vegas files veg. files? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, but you can’t go back to 8 once you save it in 10. So it’s upward compatible but not backward compatible.

January 26, 2011 at 12:50 amI use 9 and 10. If I want to be sure that all is good, when I open a previously worked on project, I “save as” with veg10, after the name so I know which is which. You can also choose the default version (8 or 10) that windows uses to open a veg file…this way is you want to make SURE vegas 8 is the default…in case you want to migrate slowly to 10…good luck!

January 26, 2011 at 1:50 amI would say bigger between 8&9 than 9&10, but 10 (for me at this point) is a little more stabler and runs WAY quicker and MUCH better preview.

Yea, well… as Scott said, lots of differences between 8 and 9 and then add 10 to that and 8 to 10 is a big jump. Vegas Pro 8 was right around the time that AVCHD/H.264 reared it’s ugly head. Vegas Pro 8 could handle some of it, 9 could handle more of it, but 10 has really made great strides in supporting AVCHD at decent playback speeds. Then, of course, 10 comes with stabilization built in, 9 added support for closed captions and 10 expanded that by showing it on the preview. Just lots of little things that make work a lot simpler.
But the biggest jump is the new OFX plug-ins like BCC7. This puts Vegas Pro 10 in a whole new class. I almost never need to go out to After Effects now that I have BCC7 with Vegas Pro 10. I mean that right there was worth the price of admission. Add to that Folder tracks and Audio Event FX and 10 is just a dream to work in now. I could never go back to 8.
