August 24, 2010 at 2:32 pmHi Chad,
Soon to get my copy of Resolve, for testing purposes. Will let you know more as I get into it. Davinci has always been more EDL based, but am expecting more development from Black Magic for Final Cut projects.I have used Apple Color for several documentaries, and use the Automatic Duck software to bring in the AAF files along with the media. The only fly in the ointment using this method is that any “plug-ins” used in the Avid do not necessarily come through. I also request an uncompressed Quick Time of the show, to drop in anything that does not come in correctly. Sometimes it is easier to just use the EDL as a guide, and cut up the Quick Time in Final Cut manually, ouch… The new Avid software can now work with the Pro Res codec, which really helps, not having to use Compressor to make DNX 220’s.

August 24, 2010 at 2:45 pmEDL works nicely.
As manual points you also have scene detection.
So it is pretty simple i’d say.I have had trouble with avid > fcp roundtrip.
I really hate avid edl that does not work 🙂One of my customers did offline with avid and gave me edl.
I had master on digibeta. Results were “wonderful”Mostly i had to cut manually in fcp as there is no scene detection with fcp.
As far as i know EDL is nice with fcp.

August 24, 2010 at 3:43 pmI totally agree with you about the Wave(I actually took that picture to show how clunky it is), but unfortunately there seems to be more support for it in general. On top of that, the USB connection is handy for DIT work.

Wonder if I can use the ShuttlePRO2 with DaVinci until I get a control panel…

It needs an NVidia gt120 for the display and gtx285 or fx4800 for the cuda power.

August 25, 2010 at 11:58 amSaw it demoed last night. Resolve makes Color look like Corel Draw from the ’80s. If you’re already on Mac, have a slot spare for the 2nd GPU card, I’d say it’s a no-brainer.
Grant Petty says that the two most requested features are XML support and grain addition. As such, they’re the ones they’ll be working on the moment they get v7.0 release version shipping (a couple of weeks he thinks). The team working on Resolve is now twice as large as it was before the buy-out, so expect things to motor along.
And the main reason they’ve chosen to work with USB panels first (the new Resolve panels are USB too) is faster response times than ethernet models. Anybody wanna buy a J.L. Cooper?
Cheers

August 25, 2010 at 12:06 pmNo brainer then i’d say.
It would be great if we could have test results for pcie extender also that one could have
san connectivity and rocket at the same time.—
