SV13 renders black frames
Posted by Kevin Mccarthy on September 5, 2015 at 12:34 pmI have a series of clips shot with a Sony Z1U that I tried to render to NTSC widescreen video for DVD. I get some frames that appear to be half scanned frames and totally black frames. The black frames are from 2 to 6 frames long.
I have SV12 on the same machine and it will render it perfectly!
Any ideas?

September 5, 2015 at 1:11 pmAre you using the MainConcept MPEG2 Renderer?

September 5, 2015 at 3:08 pmOne suggestion. Before render, always save your file, close Vegas and restart. For whatever reason, HDV, DV, and other avi codecs seem to produce these elusive black frames, especially if you’ve done a lot of editing and fail to restart. If all else fails, do your editing in V13, save and then render in V12 since project files for these two versions are interchangeable.

September 5, 2015 at 3:36 pmIf you were using MainConcept for MPEG2 and when all else fails, AND trying a reboot of machine, I’ve had to resort to creating a Digital Intermediary and then create a NEW Veg to render just that DI.
I’ve had exactly the very same issue: Black Frames & Inverted Fields WITHIN THE VERY SAME FRAME !! Nasty….

September 5, 2015 at 3:38 pmI always save, close and start fresh for renders. It doesn’t help

September 5, 2015 at 3:42 pmThanks Kevin. I want to hear from somebody who’s had success with MC in VP13 and hear what they’ve done to do it. Yeah….

September 5, 2015 at 4:13 pmHey Kevin, the culprit im suspecting is indeed Mainconcept, i simply never
use it, i always stick with Sony AVC and fill in whatever workaround needed.

September 5, 2015 at 4:32 pmSteve, do you know if MainConcept is carrying on developing for SCS? Is it possible that MC and SCS need to work closer on this? Interesting.

September 5, 2015 at 4:35 pmHi Steve
It has been an on again-off again problem for some time. But this time saving, closing restarting etc did not help. I have, in the past changed the Preview quality settings and seen adifference, but it may just be a coincidence!
