Help! I have created my first DVD project in DVD Arch 4. I have a play first video, main page, submenu with whole movie or link to 2nd sub menu with scene selection ( only 3 ). The whole DVD is only about 20 minutes long. During the render phase it gets to Rendering video for menu page 1 and shows about 28:00 to prepare, ok all is well, but then it gets to Rendering video for birthday video (page 2) and after about 1 minute the Approximate time left jumps to over 4 hours, then a few minutes later, over 6 hours! Any ideas what I may have done to cause this? Ive looked at the settings and all I changed from my test dvd was to loop the main page video/audio and the audio behind the dvd templates for pages 2 and 3. Anyone think of something Ive done to make it choke like this?

PREPARE and RENDER are different, not meaning to be picky but you said 2 different things here so it’s a bit confusing. Nonetheless, what program are you rendering to MPEG? DVDA or VEGAS? If DVDA then the render times will fluctuate because of the First Play, then a menu then the movie. It reads the material and then has to recompress all the frames so it’s giving the times as it see’s the material.
Remember too that when rendering to MPEG everyframe, regardless of whether anything has been done to it, has to be looked at, rendered (compressed to the proper size) then put into place in the MPEG file. It can be a slow process especially if you have any color correction or FXs done to the footage.
Probably not what you want to hear but…
BTW, it doesn’t seem like you have done anything wrong on this one-just the nature of the beast.
