Hey, just wondering here, im doing a music video project and want to use real actors in a 3d world, i plan to film them with instruments but i can see aquiring a drum kit will be a problem. Was wondering how practical it would be to film the guy with some drum sticks and then build a 3d drum kit around him later. Any thoughts, ideas or possible tutorials would be greatly appreciated.

Oh, and if i was to do this, id use after effects and then 3dsmax 9 for the 3d elements.

    Cheers!

[Will Martindale] “i plan to film them with instruments but i can see aquiring a drum kit will be a problem.”

Umm, really? I live in a 3000 people small village and know where I could get one anytime. So assuming you are in a much bigger city, you are sure to find one and rent it for a day. Unless you are planning on some exotic SciFi-look and are dependent on the CG, I’d try a more conventional approach. The matchmoving for integrating the CG could cost you much more time and turn out to be a test of patience…

Mylenium’s right. You’re in for a world of hurt if you try to integrate a 3D kit with a guy swinging sticks around in the air. Matchmoving notwithstanding, how will he hit the nonexistent drums in the same place every time?

Hey, get the drums from a school. A bar. Anywhere. They don’t have to sound good.

(Hey, Mylenium, great C4D tuts. Informative and funny.)

The drummer has to have a drum kit. I mean you can’t be in a band if you have no instrument.
