Super 16mm – Transfer To MiniDV – FCP Edit – Retransfer Selects To HD
Hello Everyone,
I’ve been reading on the proper workflows of film to tape transfers – and there seems to be so many options that I felt I had to post here and see if anyone could correct or direct me towards the proper process.
I’ll try to be succinct and to the point.
NYU Thesis Film. “Make Way For My Way.” Super 16mm. Color.
11,000 Feet Of Film.
Transferred To Mini-DV Tape (8 Tapes)
1:66 To 1
29.97 FPS
Imported Via FCP Log & Capture.
Sound Sync In Post (Using FCP)
Received 8 .Ale Files From LabI purposely did not capture and log my footage with cinema tools; no batch capture with .ale files and no reverse telecine.
I decided to edit my film first with the intent of recapturing selects from my picture-locked timeline – at another time – the proper way.
It’s time for the proper way.
Picture Lock.
23 Minutes (830 Feet Of Film)
HD TransferBefore I go to the lab – I am aware I must give them an EDL of my timeline – in order for them to capture the proper selects from my negative.
What I most need help with making sure the timeline of the mini-DV tapes and my FCP picture-lock sequence matches back correctly to the film negative.
I’m curious to know if there is one standard workflow or guide I can read that relates to my situation.
Including:
-Importing .Ale Files With Cinema Tools + Linking To FCP
-Batch Capturing Mini-DV Tapes With Proper Time-Code Corresponding To Film
-Reverse Telecine (29.97 To 23.98)
-Resynching Audio (Insuring Proper Sync)
-Ensuring Proper Set Up For The Lab HD TransferI’ve been told there are many wrong ways to go about this – and once again any help would be immensely appreciated.
Sincerely,
Boris
