Suggestions on a PC LAPTOP to buy for CS5
I don’t want to get into a PC v Mac debate. It just happens all the systems I have at home and at work are PCs. Besides producing video for a number of clients, I also teach college courses in TV Production, and the students all have PCs supplied by the university. So, it has to be a PC.
Largely due to this, I’m looking for a PC notebook that runs 64 bits Windows 7, has at least a fast dual core CPU, 4 to 8 GB of RAM, and an accelerated GPU. I’ve been using a Dell XPS M1330, with an Intel Core 2 @ 2.20 GHz Duo, 4 GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS with roughly 1700 MB of memory. But the OS is 32 bit Windows 7. The system has been running fine for the few years that I’ve had it; but now Adobe has made Premiere Pro, and After Effects only 64 bit compatible, which judging from the speed gain, it is worth the extra money.
A desktop is not as useful to me since I need to transport my work. Can anyone direct me in the general direction of a 64 bit OS PC laptop that meets all the stated requirements? I’ve looked at HP, Dell, Asus. By the way, I use the laptop with external everything – external screen, storage, keyboard, etc. In class I attach it via the Dell’s HDMI port to a 43″ HD screen. As I said – it all works perfectly well, except for the need of 64bits.
Any ideas? Anyone?

If you have the budget, you might look at the high-end laptop market. A couple vendors I know of are: BoxxTech (dot com) and NextComputing (dot com).

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Both sites offer exactly what I’m searching for. Boxx has some interesting configurations – if I can afford them. NextComputing seems to be more into the lightweight desktop than laptops – at 15 lbs a notebook is hardly portable. But good systems.Ozzie Alfonso

There are others I’ve been looking at that come in under $2k – ASUS is one of them. They fall in the $1200 – $1500 range. I’m currently looking at i7 quad core processors. Of course after adding 8GB of RAM the price quickly escalates to $2k and higher, but at least they all seem to be under 7 pounds.
There are some accounts receivable outstanding, so maybe soon. 🙂

After having been misadvised for a Toshiba Tecra, I need to buy a new laptop for PPr CS4.
I’ve looked at MAC, DELL and now Clevo/Sager.
But when you look at Adobe users forum, you really don’t know anymore what to do. They mostly tell you there is noway with laptop, you need workstation.
I’ve worked 5 years with a Satellite and PPr1.5: it’s definitelly not fast, but it did work.
Any opinion on this:

GPU Nvidia FX3800M (1GB)
And of course Win7 64b.As for Clevo, they seem to be much cheaper and technically more advanced. But can you trust this brand?

– Sound Card: Sound Blaster Compatible 3D AudioI ordered over a week ago and it might be another week before I get it. The price with all the specs came to $1944. What do you think? From what I’ve read ASUS is a dependable brand, and the basic prices could not be beat. I’ve never used a CPU that needs a thermal compound to keep it cool.
One of the driving reasons for this particular model was its weight – about 5 pounds. Great!

Well i was wondering if you already run premiere cs5 with FHD footage, or dslr footage? how was the importing and rednder process? do you have real playback with your video card? u know that with the engine that premiere cs5 requires just certain nvidia GPUs runs real time playback.So it did work well
what about after effects with heavy hd elements -

I’ve been running Premiere CS5 HD footage, mostly 720. The importing and rendering have gone smoothly. I still get the red line most of the time but the playback is okay even with unrendered footage. All the same holds true for AE. So far I’m very happy with the ASUS N82J.

I am looking for a laptop to run premiere pro cs5 editing with p2 cards and fast external hard drive connection. Would this laptop be suitable?
