Suddenly this “workstation” can’t even keep up with my other baby PC

July 5, 2017 at 10:23 amSeriously, in all my years of working with computers this has to be the most unintuitive, unresponsive PC I’ve ever dealt with!!! I’m trying to take a simple screen shot of my disk management window so you can see what it’s showing for the missing hard drive. Press “scrnshot”, you say? NO! Nothing happens. All of the “simple” procedures, like pressing alt, windows key, F3 and standing on your head while tapping the screen shot key do nothing. This is sooooo friggin’ aggravating!!!
Anyway, disk management shows the “third” HDD as being “Dynamic” rather than “Basic”, and “Foreign” rather than “online”. There’s also the exclamation point in a yellow triangle.
Whether it’s actually talking about the missing HDD or some mysterious other HDD, I can’t tell you, but I do know that I’m increasingly getting fed up with the constant aggravation of trying to do something that’s been simple and second nature for over 20 years and having all these curveballs thrown at me. Maybe I’ll take up fishing.

July 5, 2017 at 10:31 amAnd now, once again, after my usual online tirade, the solution suddenly presents itself. Right clicking on the “Foreign” hard drive brings up a menu asking if I want to import the Foreign HDD into the system. Clicking on that then brings up the opportunity to convert it to a “Simple” whatever it’s called, and now the hard drive shows up, with all data intact. I have no idea why I always have to make myself look like a fool before the solution appears, but it’s worked this way for years. Now, to figure out why print screen isn’t printing the screen. Temper tantrum to follow shortly, I believe 😉

July 5, 2017 at 6:11 pmWRONG!!! Contrary to every single link I’ve followed, that procedure doesn’t work. I found the solution on the most obscure message board ever, that has nothing to do with Dell or Windows 10. The solution, which the poster pointed she found nowhere in the official documentation, is to press and hold the fn button and then press print screen, a method supposedly only necessary on laptops. But it worked. Computers….grrrrrr…
Anyway this baby is screaming right now. Can’t wait to get my other 16 gig RAM chip tomorrow. Now to shoot something worthwhile.
And as usual, thanks to everybody for trying to help. This was a weird one. Thread closed!

July 6, 2017 at 2:48 amI said THREAD CLOSED!!! ???? J/K yeah one of the links mentioned the snipping tool but how can that be easier than pressing “fn” and “print screen”?
Anyway, this PC, like the one I brought back, seems to go black in the source and program monitors when I add Cosmo and FilmConvert. Not a big deal as I was just experimenting and prefer not to use those, but it’s odd that a much more powerful box than the one I’ve been using these past few years can’t handle that. Do you think the GPU is faulty? It’s an NVidia GeForce GTX 1050. It handles everything else smoothly, even plays back 4K with a whole bunch of lumetri tweaks plus a plugin smoothly with no dropped frames, even as I tweak the video. This is one of those questions that is hard to verbalize in google.

July 12, 2017 at 3:02 amHere we go again!!! Friggin’ AME failing. This isn’t even the same PC. It’s got an i7 core 7700, and a GeForce 1050ti GPU. WTF!!!!

July 12, 2017 at 4:01 amIs it possible that this is just a problem with Windows 10.
I’ve been running Win 7 and won’t update because of all of the Win 10 issues I hear about.

Take a moment to place a value on them and then maybe add two more.
Hard Drives are now stupidly cheap. A RE-SHOOT AND YOUR TIME AREN\’T.\” -
