I use FCP 7 on an iMac 11,2. Video clips play back fine in the viewer, but freeze up for as much as 10 seconds when moved to the timeline. Never have had this problem before. Checked the hard drive – plenty of space (172GB out of 500GB available). Only have 4GB of RAM, but why would that suddenly be a problem? Any suggestions?

What’s the codec of the footage? Where is it stored?

Use an FCP friendly codec to edit video. Long GOP footage (HDV) or h.264 can slow a computer down to a crawl.
