“suddenly” my ripple function is slow
Working on a project, all was ticking along. I made many changes and for some reason when I ripple edit (CTRL-SHIFT-F), Vegas struggles a bit before completing the command ie. a bit of a lag. It was almost instantaneous before.
Other functions are also slower.
I did add lots of effects but they’re all realtime as far as I know.
What can cause this?

I was doing some editing the other day and my computer was getting very sluggish too.
What cured it for me was right-clicking in the Preview window, disabling “Adjust Size and Quality for Optimal Playback” and setting it to Preview/Auto. -
Hi Mike,
I’m actually talking about lag in resizing events for instance. Not the preview window.
ie. i try to drag the edge of an event and vegas does not respond immediately, there is a lag. same with auto ripple as stated above.

Gilles, I guess I didn’t make myself clear enough.
I found that making that simple change drastically increased my machine’s responsiveness for everything.
For example, I could press play and it would take at least 5 sec. for the cursor to catch up to where it was supposed to be.
I changed it as described and everything was instantaneous once again. -

I have those settings set to what you recommend. Still slow to do ripples, adjusting event lengths, etc.

Don’t know what else to tell you Gilles.
This is a real stab in the dark but have you done a clean-up of all the various temp files that Vegas loves to hang on to? -

No I haven’t removed temps. how do I do it?

Gilles, folders I periodically clear out are “Prerendered files folder” (File – Properties – Video – assuming you keep them that is) in Vegas and the “Temporary files folder” (Options – Preferences – Burning) in DVDA.
BTW, if you ever burn DVDs directly from the Vegas timeline, it keeps the MPEG-2 and WAV files in (I think) the DVDA Temp folder.
Doing this probably won’t help but at least it will cleanup your hard drive a bit 🙂p.s. our local forecast says some of that nasty white stuff is coming soon so be prepared 🙁

I tried this, still no go. There is still a delay when I ripple.
After pressing the CTRL-SHIFT-Fm the track on which I ‘m moving the event moves immediately but the tracks below (in this case) lag before the events positions are adjusted. It’s sluggish and difficult to work efficiently like this.
any other ideas, Mike? Anyone?
