Suddenly dropped frames for no reason
Hi,
I’m running Final Cur Pro 7 on an iMac 27″ i7 with 8GB ram, mostly working with DSLR-footage, 550D, 7D etc etc. Soo far the computer has been handling the footage extremely well…But one day when I was editing a movie for a client, my footage on the timeline started to drop frames, more and more. It even drops frames when I play it in playback in the viewer-monitor. All the clips and the scratch disk where set to a portable USB-drive, so my first thought was that the disc was too slow. (Even though I have been editing from that disk before with no problems.) I connected the external drive into my MacBook pro 15″ just to check if the error had something to do with the disk itself. Everything ran flawlessly again…
I immediately started to connect other disks to my iMac, Firefire 800 drives, other USB-drives with faster speed etc etc… With the same result, dropped frames… All my footage is unwatchable, making it very awkward when clients want to see progress on certain projects etc. It has to have something to do with my iMac, or even more likely, Final cut pro itself.
I’m in a heep of trouble here and work starts to stack up, so If there’s any kind soul out there who can provide some help I would be extremely happy and grateful because I have no where else to turn.
Best regards.
