Activity Forums VEGAS Pro sudden loss of video

This has been the project fated to never get finished (4th time I’ve had to come here for help), but I just wanted to give a big thanks to everyone who’s given me advice thus far. That said, I’m in another pinch:

The other day, we had a pretty nasty computer crash (thanks Vista), and decided enough was enough, upgrading to Windows 7. After everything was loaded up and Vegas reinstalled however, the project video was suddenly listed as “media offline”. They seem to only register the audio data. The clips themselves are huffyuv .avi files (without any playback trouble elsewhere).

So I’m just trying to figure out what’s at fault: Windows 7? Missing codecs (I should note I already have the k-lite mega pack)? Vegas itself (Pro 9.0c)?

I’m trying to avoid thinking about re-cutting a few weeks work, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I’m fairly knew here but I have installed Huffvuy on my Windows 7 64bit too but I don’t think that K-lite is so good at installing Huffvuy on Win7 64…

Anyway, if you are using 64 bit use this:

I’m just bringing some advice, and if you use 64 bit codec then you might need 64 bit Vegas!

Don’t rely full on my post as mentioned I’m looking for help here too! 😉

Sure sounds like a missing codec.

(I should note I already have the k-lite mega pack)?

Never install codec paks on a video editing workstation. They only cause trouble.

Uninstall the codec paks. Then find the Huffyuv codec and install it. Note, Huffyuv is 32-bit only so it will only work with the 32-bit version of Vegas.

Well, time to smack myself in the head…during reinstallation, I loaded on the 64-bit version of Vegas. Went back, installed the 32-bit version, and everything popped up just fine.

Thanks for the help. I’m surprised about huffyuv being 32-bit only though. Anyone happen to know of a good 64-bit equivalent?
