  • Sudden Change in Log and Transfer of AVCHD

Hello. I’m fairly new to Final Cut Pro, but I have been logging and transferring footage from the Memory Cards from my new HFS100 on FCP 6.0.5 for weeks now with no problems of any kind. I have even been able to create disk images of the AVCHD stuff for archiving and have logged and transfered those without trouble.

Now, literally overnight, the log and transfer window refuses to bring up or show, or even acknowledge that it’s attempting to show any clips from any source…the Camera, different Memory Cards, or archived disk images.

The only thing that changed between successful l&t and unsuccessful was the purchase of a LaCie 500GB drive, which I connected using firewire 800 and switched to my primary scratch disk. (The previous scratch disk was usb 2.0, which I realized would not work properly for editing HD) Of course the first thing I tired when I realized I couldn’t log and transfer was switching my scratch disk back and unplugging the firewire 800 drive. Still nothing.

I’ve also trashed my preferences as per the tutorial on this site. No dice. I feel that I’ve looked around Creative Cow, Hv20.com, and google itself, but have been unable to find someone with exactly the same problem. Plenty of people who can”t figure out how to get AVCHD into final cut pro, but no one for whom it was working perfectly and then suddenly didn’t.

I’m editing on a brand new 17 inch Macbook Pro with FCP 6.0.5. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Stuart

Try to point at different levels of folders>subfolders. In my case (HMC150) the AVCHD folder works..

I had the same thing happen. I have a HVX200 that won’t show up in the Log and Transfer. I also have a Panasonic HDC-SD1 for my wife’s use that I tried to make work today and it is doing the same thing. I also, have searched and searched for people who are having problems with Log and Transfer but it seems everyone else’s problem is that they don’t know to use Log and Transfer.

I noticed the problem around the same time as Stuart. That makes me wonder if there was an update to something that screwed me up. It was flawless before. As a note I can still use iMovie to import the footage.

I caught a thread on mac forums about someone who thought Perian had something to do with it so I trashed it and am still were I started. I trashed final cut system prefs, nothing. I tried copying the cards to an internal HD and still nothing.

Another thing I am noting is that it seems like Final Cut is taking longer to shutdown.

I actually found my answer awhile back on the Apple forums…it was a 3rd party plugin that I had installed, FX Factory. Here is the Apple thread https://support.apple.com/kb/TA25088

Got rid of it, and everything started working again immediately.

    Hi there, Stuart.

Have you figured out a way out? I am having the same problem.

I’m using SONY HDR-XR100 and used “log and transfer”. Everything worked very well before. Then suddenly L&T won’t recognize my files with the standard “
“AVCHD” contains unsupported media or has an invalid directory structure. Please choose a folder whose directory structure matches supported media.”
    message.
I’m on Mac OS X 10.5.7 MacBook Pro with FCP 6.0.6. I’ve tried everything I could google. But no luck. It is so frustrating. I didn’t do anything. I just closed FCP for a while, got back on and suddenly it wasn’t working.

Thanks before for any help, guys. 🙂

    I sorted out the problem.
L&T doesn’t recognize my files on cam HDD because I deleted one file on my camera HDD from my computer. The file structures becomes ruined. So now I only delete files on my camera using my camera menu. 🙂
