  Subtract Grunge from Group

  I have a grunge layer that I want to Subtract from a grouped layer underneath that has several different colors.

  Everytime I try to do this the entire group turns into one color.

  I want the grunge layer to “cut” out of the bottom layer, showing the transparency through.

  I’m still new to Illustrator so noob steps may be necessary.
