Subscription fees. Seriously???
Posted by Jeff Brown on April 14, 2011 at 1:19 pmI’ve been wondering why Adobe didn’t offer “subscription” updates. Now they do. With mind-befuddling pricing. I can pay $550 and upgrade my Master Collection. Or, for the _same_ thing, I can pay $1560 a year on subscription? Thanks for the priveledge!
By comparison, Autodesk offers a subscription option for 3ds Max. It’s about 1/2 the cost of paying for incremental upgrades. That makes sense. But, Adobe: a 300% price increase for a subscription option? Really, Adobe? Really?Joseph Owens replied 15 years ago 5 Members · 9 Replies -

April 14, 2011 at 6:50 pmHi Jeff,
This is mainly aimed at people who want a short term lease, or only use it a few times a year. Of course, if you need it every month of the year, not much of a deal.

April 14, 2011 at 8:59 pmHi Alex,
Yes, if you stop paying, they just put the subscription on hold, so if you are a casual user, this can be a really good deal. Especially since you can do this for every application in the suite.
That also works well for companies that use a large number of machines for specific projects. A whole year for multiple machines can get very pricey.

I was thinking about how cool it will be in instances where you just need to bring a few extra hands on deck during a project…expand as needed.
I think it’s a really good move.
I think I will be doing this for CS5.5…

April 15, 2011 at 7:16 amHmm. Er ah, well. In that case I totally misunderstood the purpose. I was mislead by the word “subscription.” “Rental” I would have grokked. That does make good sense. And I feel stupid (not a unusual occurrence, unfortunately).

April 15, 2011 at 12:00 pmI confirmed that your subscription fees go towards purchase price 100%. So if you rent it enough to buy it…. you can buy it.

April 19, 2011 at 1:30 pmDoes any one know:
If you download the a set of the Suite Software.
Can you then purchase multiple subscriptions without having to re-download the software each time?
that would be very helpful.

Probably would simply need a new key.
