Hi, I am trying to figure out the best way to create this effect. I am shooting a Music Video, where I want the Subject (artist) to be in color, and then everything else (scenery) in black and white. I would rather not have to resort to frame by frame rotoscoping 3 mins of video in After Effects (unless that is my only option). Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

PS. For what its worth, I am using a Panasonic AG-HVX200

If you have a portable green screen then you could shoot the scene with and without the talent. Then composite them together.

But rotoscoping might be the best option because you’re dealing with such a wide range of colors.

The easiest way is to green screen the artist. Edit all your background footage and desaturate it, then key your artist over the top. Basic green screens are pretty cheap. Just make sure you light well so you don’t get shadows on the green screen and the keying should be fairly easy.

You can do this in the Geometry Room of Color, although it might not be as accurate as you need.
