  • Stupid Question – how do I burn a DVD on my G5

Posted by Jonathan Eagan on June 20, 2005 at 1:41 am

Before anyone gets angry let me be clear that it is a DVD that I made myself in DVD SP 3. I have only the hard copy left, as I deleted the files from my computer once I had made several copies. I have one copy left from the originals and I want to burn it, I can’t seem to figure it out. I can’t seem to do it in the disk utlity as the actual file just shows an AUDIO TS and VIDEO TS folder when it opens, so I can’t burn anything, but it works just fine when you put it on the computer or on a DVD Player. What am I missing here?
    Thanks
    Jon

Do you mean “hard copy” as in it’s on a DVD disc you burned??

    If so,..

Insert the disc,..double click on the disc,..drag the files off the disc onto the desk top,..wait,..eject disc,..insert blank DVD-R,..wait,..double click hard drive,..the blank disc will show in Finder,..click on it,..then drag the files from the desk top into the blank disc,..wait,..then burn.

Hope this helps,..other wise I look dumb.

Best way to copy a disc is to use Roxio Toast. It’s around $50 and does a fantastic Copy Disk which takes all the files, including hidden files, and builds an exact clone of the original.

    walter,

just want to make sure i’m doing this right:

are you saying go to the “copy” tab in toast, choose, “cd/dvd copy,” then, “read from built-in…” thank you!

[jaser] “are you saying go to the “copy” tab in toast, choose, “cd/dvd copy,” then, “read from built-in…””

    Yes!

You can also copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your hard drive and do it this way:

If you don’t have Toast it can be done very easily with Disk Utililty:

    1. Insert disc to be copied, launch Disk Utility
    2. Select the disc in the Source List
    3. Click New Image button – select “DVD/CD Master” from the Image Format pop-up menu, “None” from the Encryption menu
    4. Name the disc, and click Save

Once the Disc Image has been created select it in the Source List and click Disk Utility’s “Burn” button. Insert blank disc.
