  • Stumped: I can capture anything but ProRes SQ all of a sudden

Posted by Eugene Reynolds on September 10, 2009 at 9:32 am

I am doing my most common every-week workflow: Capturing PAL digibeta through my Kona LHe to ProRes SQ via SDI from a Sony J30 deck controlled by 9 pin remote.

Now my weird problem is this: Out of the blue today I am not seeing video in the log and capture window. If I connect the deck via SDI I see green shash/inteference and if I connect via component I see solid purple.

NOW IF I SWITCH THE CAPTURE/INPUT SELECTION TO ANYTHING ELSE THAN PRORES SQ – INCLUDING ALL OTHER VARIETIES OF PRORES (HQ, PROXY, LT etc) or 8/10 Uncompressed, I CAN SEE & CAPTURE VIDEO.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled every possible candidate for an AJA driver and am now settled on 7.0 – all give the same result. I have also trashed my FCP preferences.

My hardware: MacPro 2×2.8 quad Intel Xeon8GB RAM and a AJA Kona LHe.
My software: Mac OS 10.5.8, FCP 7.0, AJA driver v7.0.

Any suggestions or wisdom would be gratefully received.

    Try trashing your Quicktime Preferences.

Thanks I’ll try but I’m not sure where to find them – any clues?

User Folder > Library > Preferences

Look for these three files, then trash and delete them:

    com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist

    com.apple.quicktimeplayer.plist

    QuickTime Preferences

Thanks. That explains why I couldn’t find them. They’re not there!
Nothing in my preferences folder has the word quicktime in it…
If I knew how I would post a screenshot of my preferences folder

Not your system > library > preferences folder, but your

USER FOLDER (home) > Library > Preferences

Sorry I am a Muppet. Thanks for your patience!
I have trashed and deleted all three of these qt files. Also restarted. Sadly no change in results.

I have now used Digital Rebellion FCS remover v2.5.2 to remove all trace of FCSuite (App set to “ALL” mode).
Reinstalled the whole FCSuite from the DVDs.
    Rebooted.
It has had no effect. I am still getting green shash when my capture preset is set to ProRes SQ but get video when set to anything else.
    Baffled.
