[Dave Jenkins] “G5 Dual 2 Gig, 4 Gigs of ram. Is this computer not fast enough?”

Might be on the edge. We have one of those here too and will be installing Studio 2 on it tomorrow to see what it can do.

Well, more RT comes from faster CPU’s (and drive speeds, graphic processors)… we’ll not see the same performance on a dual G5 that we’ll see on an Octo Intel… even with mixed source sequences wouldn’t think…

So bright green for some, orange for some, and dark green for some…

Since the latest answers on this came in, I’m confused again. Maybe the specifics of my project will help.

Shooting HDV 1080i 29.97. Editing for an SD widescreen DVD and the WEB, WITH the likelyhood of an SD half hour show when it’s all over, for broadcast.

Using a Kona LH to get this all to Beta, with FCP 6 what would be the best workflow? (Sorry, I’m just confused!)

G5 dual with 4.5 gigs RAM.

    Hey guys,

I’m following this thread, as I have a Kona LH, FCP6 and a Sony HVR-M10U…

My Sony deck is plugged into my Mac via Firewire (basically bypassing the Kona altogether). I ingest using the HDV settings and have always done that, but I’ve been told here and there (folks at AJA, etc) that I should be using the DVC Pro HD codecs to ingest from my deck. When I try that, however, FC can’t find my deck…

    So, do I

    a. ingest as HDV and then convert it once it’s in FCP? (and if so, what am I gaining)

    b. Somehow ingest it as DVC Pro HD from the deck by getting that Easy Setup to actually see my deck?

    c. None of the above…try this (your awesome solution goes here 🙂

Thanks…hope this doesn’t throw the current thread out of whack. Seems like a relevant sub topic.

    Best,

    Gino
