Struggling with colour/contrast! :(
Hello!
When I import a video into Sony Vegas and move it into the video track the colour suddenly becomes faded.
This is what it looks like before and after:

As you can see the original raw footage is darker and there is more contrast.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Ultimately I want to upload videos to Youtube but the video quality ends up becoming poor due to this colour problem.
If I upload the raw footage into Youtube directly the same thing happens. Does this mean that something is wrong with the file?
If anyone could help me with this I’d greatly appriciate it! 😛 I’m new to making videos and these things really confuse me.

No, it means that the file was recorded in Compter RGB space (0-255) and YouTube and Vegas Pro are expecting it to be in Studio RGB space (16-235). What you need to do is add the Color Corrector and boost the Saturation and then add Color Curves and make an ‘S’ curve to boost the contrast until it looks like the original in the Vegas Pro preview window.

It looks to me like it is simply being interpreted with a lower contrast. I think the affected areas are not too bright (i.e. pushing above 235) or too dark (pushing below 16). I would simply boost the contrast in Vegas, and I think your problem will largely, if not completely, disappear.

Just for the fun of it, which codec is in use and what is the bit depth?
