April 25, 2005 at 6:30 amWhen I used Premiere, it crashed hourly. My Vegas (3, 4 and 5) has NEVER crashed. I thought that it did crash once, the three-finger salute said that the application wasn’t responding. It turned out that I had a failed Firewire peripheral.
On the UI – Of course it’s different. Vegas designers weren’t trying to imitate film editing and linear video editing paradigms.

May 6, 2005 at 3:48 amStruggle ??? why!!!???
i been using Vegas since V2
The thing i’ve noticed about Vegas users…is that they ask questions more about how to do somthing than why is my system doing this or that…
and how simple things can be done compared to many other editing software!!
worth 3 times the price!!i even know a few Final cut pro converts!!! who took to Vegas very easely!
once they realised what a dual wheel mouse can do!!! 🙂i’ve worked on Premier, Flame, Avid, Media 100, they all have strong points..but none combine the strength and vercitilaty of Vegas…
Sony did a very good thing to keep this software and not trash it.
its almost becoming their flagship editing software..Martin Boulianne

May 10, 2005 at 10:49 amI got the book Instant vegas 5. Little hard to follow at times. Messing around with demo. As stated before, I definately love certain things about vegas(color correct/audio tools/certain aspects of workflow). Still can’t get over the UI. Is there no way to move the timeline to the bottom and monitor to the top? I assume not. Think the biggest thing I need to get used to is trimming and basic effects. Used to just doing a manual crossfade in p.pro. Tryed to do it in vegas and had way to many options. If there is one thing I learned though, it is the the more options you have.. the more creative you can be. Like comparing motion to AE. If you can get past that initial learning curve the creative opportunities are endless.

May 10, 2005 at 2:41 pmYes, there IS a way (though why you would WANT to, I’m not sure). Yes, my previous NLE had the timeline on the bottom. I had no problems at all adjusting to the timeline being on top. However, to do so requires that you go into the “hidden” preferences tab to change a setting. This is generally not advised.
So… with the warnings that I DO NOT recommend doing this and to proceed and your own risk….
Hold down the SHIFT key and choose Options – Preferences
Go to the “Internal” tab
Locate “Frame Dock at the Top” and change it from FALSE to TRUE -

May 11, 2005 at 5:24 amIf it is well advised not to do it, then I won’t. You make it seem like a monster is going to come out and eat me, so I won’t.
