stroking a motion path
I was trying to find a way to have a stroke on one layer following the x and y positions of another layer.
I was thinking about using expressions but apparently i get stuck on the way the paint tool is built in AE. There’s no such property to animate as the x and y position of the brush (so that i could connect it with the moving layer’s position) or the possibility to select a motion path as a path for the stroke. or even to copy a motion path into a stroke path, or vice-versa. (that I know of, at least)
I’m sure there must be a way to do this.

Copy your position keyframes into a mask, then use the Stroke effect.

You can also try the “write on” effect. Use an expression to link the position of your layer to the x/y coordinates in write on.
