I know that I can paste a path into a solid and add the stroke effect to stroke the mask by animating the start parameter.

What if I wish to animate the position of a Trapcode particular emitter to follow the same path ?

I tried adding Particular to another solid and pasting the path into the Emitter x / y position but that didn’t seem to work.

Is there any way of finding the actual x/ y position of the stroke as it moves so I can make the emitter follow it in synch as it were.

I’ve found that I can click on “Mask Path” inside the Mask Properties and copy & paste the data to the emitter’s xy position.

That works ok for a single path. I guess if I have multiples paths
eg: outlines of text from Illustrator I would have to repeat the process on a different solid for each letter.

That seems rather crude. I was just wondering if there could be any easier way.

Oh well back to the drawing board.

Select the first path, copy/paste to the position, go to the next frame after the last keyframe, select second path, copy/pase and so on.

    Steph –

I believe I read just recently that Particular had trouble running emitters on paths, and that the creator of Particular designed the software so that lights, which can be animated on paths, are capable of being particle emitters.

I think I may have read this on the VideoCopilot website, but I’m not quite sure. I may have seen it in one of the VideoCopilot tutorials on Particular. Hope this helps.
